The BBC's take on Anne Lister's coded diaries, nine years before Gentleman Jack. Maxine Peake plays the 19th-century landowner who wrote her love affairs in cipher; it premiered at the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and won Inside Out's audience award. Comparing the two adaptations is half the pleasure.
